In Memoriam: Reginald Torian, Lead Singer of The Impressions

Reginald Eugene Torian Sr., lead singer for The Impressions, and a 1968 graduate of Thornton Township High School, died on May 4, 2016 at the age of 65. Replacing Curtis Mayfield when he left the group, Reginald sang with The Impressions for more than 25 years.

A popular, talented entertainer, Reginald was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 1991 for his work with The Impressions.

In addition to singer, Reginald also was an actor. He received the Black Lead Actor award for his performance in a musical from The Black Theater Alliance. He also was recognized as Best Actor by the African American Arts Alliance for his portrayal of Curtis Mayfield in “It’s All Right: The Curtis Mayfield Story.”

Reginald was inducted in the Thornton Township High School Hal of Fame in 2010. That same year, he was Distinguished Speaker for Thornton Township High School.
